Legal Requirements
There are a number of legal requirements under the Marriage Act 1961 which a couple intending to marry must meet prior to a marriage ceremony being solemnized.

Major Requirements
- Complete of the Notice of Intended Marriage form at the very latest one month before the wedding date.
- Both partners are required to sign a declaration stating that you believe there is no legal impediment to the marriage between yourself and your partner.
- Both partners must be over the age of 18.
- Sighting of original Birth Certificate and current Drivers License, or your Passport and Drivers License.
- If born outside Australia a birth certificate is also required; however, in the absence of that document, you may produce your overseas Passport.
- In the event of a previous marriage, either a copy of the Decree Absolute or Death Certificate must be produced.
- Two witnesses over the age of 18 and who are present at the ceremony are required to sign marriage documentation.
